Easter Message 2018

Kay Lasante: A Place of Resurrection Hope

The following is an Easter Message from Bishop Thomas Gumbleton:

I greet you with blessings of joy this Easter season – a time that fills us with hope as we celebrate

the Resurrection of Jesus.

Together with some members of our Board, I was blessed to visit our Klinic in Haiti during Lent.

As always, it was an inspiring yet challenging time. We were able to observe the smooth

operation of the Klinic, and with Dr. Belfort, we reviewed the individual performance of each

staff member. The enthusiasm of the staff continues to inspire and guide us.

We serve approximately 600 people per month for primary care for children and adults. We also

continue weekly acupuncture treatments for stress reduction. The need for such treatment is

great. The results are truly gratifying.

As many of you are already aware, the most exciting development this year was the training of

three of the nurses to offer VIA, a procedure to diagnose and treat cervical cancer. Haiti has the

highest rates of cervical cancer in the world. We rejoice that Kay Lasante is one of very few

places where this treatment is available.

One of our companions on the trip, Laura Mckenna, admits to feeling quite overwhelmed by the

heart-breaking poverty, but she also experienced encouragement as she witnessed the work being

done at Kay Lasante. While the clinic cannot possibly address all the health challenges that the

people of Haiti face, it does bring healing and love to those we serve. For the poorest of our

brothers and sisters our humble clinic provides basic services that save lives.

And, of course, it could not be done without your generous support. Your continued support is

the only way it can continue. And your faithful support reinforces our commitment to continue

our work on behalf of this community. Your kindness does indeed make this neighborhood in

Port au Prince a place of Resurrection hope.

We thank you for your support.

May the joy and peace of the Risen Christ remain with you,

Bishop Tom Gumbleton
